July Newsletter

With more people returning to our spaces for in-person activities, last month was a blast! We had a sharing from our fantastic Edge Two group, found ourselves listed in The Daily Mirror as they highlighted 1,000 acts of kindness during the pandemic and were shortlisted for Community Group of the Year by the 2021 Social Prescribing Link Worker Awards.

July shows no sign of slowing down as this month we will be launching our new East London Write Now group. To celebrate the start of our second group in East London and to introduce local service users to our West London participants, we are inviting all of you to a BBQ at our new East London home Brady Arts Centre (more information below). We will also run two weeks of R&D rehearsals for three of the finalist scripts from last year’s Phil Fox Award competition.

We hope that you’ll be keen to join us at the social event or at one of our creative weekly workshops this month!

New Group: East London Write Now!

We can’t wait  to start our **NEW** script writing group, East London Write Now, after the success of its West London counterpart!

East London Write Now starts from July 6th and runs weekly, every Tuesday from 3.30pm – 5.30pm at Brady Arts Centre near Whitechapel Station (E1 5HU) and can also be accessed on Zoom.

This creative writing workshop is suitable for people at all stages of their recovery who want regular writing opportunities as part of their recovery maintenance, or for anyone who would like to support their mental health and wellbeing. Exercises are tailored for the needs of the participants who will learn to tell stories, write dramatic dialogue and structure theatre scripts.

East London Write Now will help you to:

Develop a personal voice through the written word
Create a safe peer-support network
Foster personal confidence
West London Write Now will continue to run on Wednesdays at the Chelsea Theatre, so keen writers can always attend both groups if they are interested!

If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask and drop us a message on admin@edgetc.org

Help us spread the word!

Congratulations to the performers of Edge Two!

After two weeks of blended rehearsals, the wonderful performers of Edge Two shared their work with a large virtual audience this Monday.
Rooted in the work of Michael Chekhov, and exploring ‘elements, emotions and movement’, the performers presented a series of short scenes which were punctuated with beautiful movement pieces and tied together with high energy, professionalism and support.
The scenes transported us from an audition room, to a masseuse’s chair, to some more abstract spaces- making us laugh, think and reflect.
Some performers were in the room and some joined via Zoom, but all delivered their performances with commitment and precision which left the audience mesmerized and delighted.

This is what the audience had to say:
“Hypnotic to watch!”
“Poetry in motion! Beautiful.”
“It was mesmerizing.”

Theatre Club is changing!

This week we had our final weekly Theatre Club. After 62 glorious weeks and countless fantastic guests we will be changing the way Theatre Club runs. As theatres start to reopen (yay!) Theatre Club members will be taken back to live venues and we will continue to curate Q&As with those involved in the production.

We would like to give a huge thank you to all our guests, who selflessly lent us their Tuesday evenings and were so generous and open with the answers to our questions. And also a big thank you to anyone who watched a show, came along and made the discussions so rich and exciting. We can’t wait for all of you to join us on the group’s next chapter and give rapturous applause together in real life!

Our first trip for July will be to The Royal Court to see seven methods of killing kylie jenner on Friday 23rd July at 7:45pm. Tickets are limited so if you are interested in coming along to this show please email admin@edgetc.org.

Phil Fox R&D starts in July

The winning script of the inaugural Phil Fox Award for Playwriting Lessons for Diving by Silas Parry and two special commendation scripts, Drift by Kristian Phillips and Boomerang by Jack Stanley, are each going into R&D workshops later this month.

We are excited to be able to support these playwrights to develop their next drafts and to watch these three incredible scripts come to life in the hands of exciting creative teams.

The R&D showcases will be open to an invited list of industry professionals, and we hope to be able to share full productions of these plays with a wider audience in due course.
