Outside Edge Announces TWO shows at VAULT Festival 2022

Outside Edge Theatre Company is pleased to announce that we are returning to the VAULT Festival in 2022 with TWO incredible productions about addiction and deception!

At the beginning of the Festival (1st – 6th February), Alexander Vlahos (TV’s Sanditon and Outlander) will star in the debut production of Drift written by Kristian Phillips (winner of a Special Commendation for last year’s Phil Fox Award for Playwriting) and directed by Matt Steinberg (Artistic Director of OETC). Drift is an honest and darkly comic exploration of addiction and toxic masculinity in small town Wales.

Ahead of the VAULT Festival run, Drift will also tour to London-area treatment facilities.

At the end of the Festival (15th – 20th March), Outside Edge will return with Barefaced, an original production about lies and deceit, which will be directed by Hannah Hauer-King (Outside Edge Theatre Company’s Never Be Lonely and Papatango Award Winner The Funeral Director) and written with Jane Bodie (Women’s Prize for Playwriting shortlist, Hampstead Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company). Barefaced will be performed by The Company, which is Outside Edge’s ensemble of performers in recovery from issues related to addiction.

Following our smash hit of Check-in/Check-out  in 2019, we’re excited to return to next year’s VAULT Festival. The VAULT Festival is the UK’s leading independent showcase of live performance and artistic talent, featuring thousands of sensational performances across Theatre, Comedy, & Live Entertainment, made by the most exciting and boldest artists of our time.

Tickets for both productions are on sale now and we hope you will join us as we return to the stage next year!

Drift

The dirty secret of dependency plagues Roger in his small hometown in Wales and leads him to what may literally be a dead end. When his best friend’s addiction gets out of hand, Roger must face his own demons and make the ultimate decision.

Drift is a darkly comic, tour-de-force solo show, about addiction and grief, drenched in toxic masculinity.

Starring Alexander Vlahos (Sanditon; Outlander), and directed by Matt Steinberg (Tumulus; Check-In/Check-Out), Drift is Kristian Phillips’ debut play and was a runner-up for Outside Edge Theatre Company’s inaugural Phil Fox Award for Playwriting.

Barefaced

15th March – 20th March 2022

Design by Todd Murray

What happens when a web of lies unravel, and hard truths are all that remain?

Directed by Hannah Hauer-King (The Funeral Director; Grotty; Breathe), written by Jane Bodie (Women’s Prize for Playwriting shortlist, Hampstead Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company), Barefaced is a collaborative piece about tall tales and the deceit that lives within our stories, especially in the world of addiction.

These tall tales are told by a group of bold, sometimes broken, but nevertheless brilliant characters who may not realise they are lying, or how much their lies could impact people they haven’t even met.

Performers are all members of The Company and are in recovery.
