March Newsletter

We’ve had an exciting February at Outside Edge. Last month saw our South London Drop-in Drama group start operating with blended delivery, Theatre Club was jam-packed with fantastic industry guests from shows such as: Fragments (Beckett by Brook), The Cost of Living (DV8), The Poltergeist (Southwark Playhouse) and Uncle Vanya (Harold Pinter Theatre) and we started recruiting for our next Chair of the Board of Trustees (more details below).

With Spring creeping in we are celebrating the start of a fresh new season with upcoming events and the latest performances from our groups. We can’t wait to tell you more about it…

NEW Production by The Company – ‘Never Be Lonely’

During the first lockdown, a group in West London came together to form the Anti-Loneliness Club. Their mission was to do whatever was required to ward off mid-pandemic loneliness.

The Club is now throwing open its doors (virtually of course!) all in the name of fun to present their first variety show, Never Be Lonely. Expect singing, dancing, spoken word, sass and a lot of bad jokes.

This performance will be streamed live online so save the date now. More details on how to book your free ticket will be sent to the Outside Edge mailing list in the coming weeks.

SAVE THE DATE: 30th March 7pm

**NEW GROUP** East London Drop-in Drama coming soon!

Outside Edge are thrilled to announce that we have a new Drop-in Drama group starting in… East London! That’s right, we’re expanding to make sure we can provide workshops across London so that we can engage with more people in recovery. If traveling across the city has been one of the reasons you haven’t made it to us before…this East London group is for you!

This is an informal group for people affected by addiction, especially those currently living in East London and the surrounding areas and will run every week on Tuesday nights (6:30pm – 8:30pm) starting from April at a venue close to Whitechapel station (address to be announced shortly). Drop-In Drama is a fun, safe introduction to drama that is suitable for all levels of experience and recovery, all we ask is that participants are abstinent on the day of the activity.

Come along to try it out! We’ll be playing easy improvisation games and there will be lots of laughter. Feel free to drop-in as part of your recovery process or attend regularly.

For East London organisations who have service users that would benefit from this group, why not book one of our FREE Five Ways To Wellbeing Drama Taster Sessions to introduce your cohort to Outside Edge? Participants will then be able to attend our free weekly workshops to support them to build their Recovery Capital. If you are interested in booking an online taster session for your service, please get in touch with Alessandra via the email: admin@edgetc.org

Edge Two Spring Sharing

Edge Two are coming to the end of their module focused on the work of two renowned theatre practitioners Augusto Boal and Keith Johnstone. Participants have been exploring the use of Image Theatre and improvisation over the course of 11 weeks and have created a short performance to share with friends of Outside Edge.

Under the guidance of Christopher Holt (OETC’s Associate Theatre Facilitator) and Julia Couto (Applied Theatre Practitioner & OETC facilitator) the group have progressed their performance skills by looking at techniques and practices drawn from Boal’s ‘Theatre of the Oppressed’ and Johnstone’s pioneering improvisational theatre.

We have some quotes from their rehearsals so far for a sneak peak of what’s been going on in a very exciting room/Zoom…

“2 hours was like 2 seconds, it was amazing. I feel much better than I did 2 hours ago”

“The trust and the bonkers work in the room was great!”

This new original piece will be streamed online via Zoom and we welcome you to attend. Please find the Zoom link below:

New location up and running for our South London Drop-in Drama!

Last week we had our first South-London Drop-in Drama group operating in person as well as on Zoom. It was great to have some bodies in the space again and to be joined by some new and familiar faces. So much fun was had by all attending in person AND on Zoom.

If you can’t get to grips with Zoom or you need that in person support at a workshop, our Friday night South-London Drop-In Drama remains open to book for in-person socially distanced sessions.

Our South London venue ‘Living Space’ is connected to a variety of transport routes. The nearest tube stations are Waterloo, Lambeth North and Southwark. It is located nearby to The Old Vic Theatre and is also on a number of South London bus routes. For more details about how to find the space click here.

If you would like to come in person you MUST book ahead of time as spaces are limited.
